To determine if the valve requires maintenance:
- Check Differential Pressure: Use pressure gauges placed before and after the strainer to monitor the pressure. A significant rise in pressure drop
(typically >10-12psi) means the screen is clogged and restricting flow.
- Perform a Visual Inspection: Isolate the valve, depressurize the system, and remove the strainer cap. If the mesh screen is deformed, torn, or heavily coated in chemical sludge/crystals, it is failing to protect your system and needs cleaning or replacement.
