There are three common drain types on MFD (multifunctional device) air regulators: manual, semi-automatic, and automatic. Look for a xxxx , button, or valve at the bottom of the clear filter bowl to drain accumulated water.
Before you begin
Locate the drain valve. The drain for the water separator filter is always at the bottom of the transparent bowl.
Prepare a container. Position a small pot or bucket underneath the drain to catch the expelled water.
Assess your drain type. Check if the regulator has an automatic or manual drain.
- Manual drain: Has a small push button, xxxx , or xxxx at the base of the filter bowl.
- Semi-automatic drain: Drains automatically when the air pressure drops (e.g., when the air supply is shut off), but also has a manual override.
- Automatic drain (float style): Drains based on water level and doesn't require manual draining.

Manual and semi-automatic drains
These drains allow you to empty the bowl while the air pressure is on or off. Draining with the pressure on helps force the water out, while draining with the pressure off can be less messy.
1. Press a button: If there is a small button on the bottom, press and hold it until all the water is expelled.
2. Turn a xxxx : For regulators with a small xxxx at the bottom, turn it a quarter turn counter-clockwise to open the drain. Turn it clockwise to close.
3. Use a drain xxxx : On some models, you may find a small xxxx . Loosening the xxxx will open the drain.
