Therefore, it is not recommended to be used in a chlorine solution. Buna seals, also known as Buna-N O-rings (NBR Nitrile), are incompatible with chlorine solutions. Exposure to chlorine can weaken, crack, and discolor the rubber, reducing its flexibility and tensile strength. The hypochlorite in bleach solutions oxidizes the rubber, while chlorine strips away its protective surface layer.
